SMU Taekwondo was established in 2002, imparting valuable attacking and self-defense skills to our growing community of members and alumni. Our training helps our members to toughen their bodies and learn martial techniques in 3 areas, namely, Poomsae (Forms), Gyeorugi (Sparring) and Gyeokpa (Board Breaking).

Taekwondo is the art of self defense that originated in Korea. The Korean words "tae", means kick, "kwon", a punch or other blow with the hand or fist, and "do", refers to a way or method of operation.
Taekwondo is now a modern Olympics sport while still maintaining the virtues and practices of the art and the efficient self-defense techniques.
The main attraction in Taekwondo lies with the curriculum that provides opportunities for development of physical and mental fitness, along with values such as tolerance, self-discipline and respect. Practitioners are also able to develop confidence, courage, self-reliance, quick thinking, through practical experience for them to stand alone to face a series of difficult problems that calls for split second decisions.
Taekwondo, thus, the A WAY OF LIFE.
